Robert Jordan’s Physics in The Wheel of Time

Does anyone else really enjoy Robert Jordan’s use of his Physics background in The Wheel of Time? On the back of every book there’s Robert Jordan’s brief biography where it talks about him recieving his degree in physics from the Citadel. He clearly has brought that background and knowledge into his stories and I love it. I’m not sure if there’s any other fantasy author I’ve read (not saying they aren’t out there) that has as deep of an understanding of science as Robert Jordan. It’s when Jordan makes physics break down that his world seems to be in most chaos. When metal becomes soft and storms appear out of nowhere it bothers us from a fundamental level as much as it bothers the people in the story. It’s Jordan’s use of real science that makes us believe in his world and get worried when things really seem amiss. I rarely describe the Wheel of Time as having “Magic” like I would describe it for Harry Potter or The Lost Years of Merlin. It’s how he twists scientific laws that make ev

Aftermath of the Battle for Winterfell

Warning! If you have not yet seen last Sunday’s episode do not read on… Visually that was one of the best cinematic hours I’ve ever seen. In my opinion it captured the chaos of battle pretty well. The army of the dead was legit. It definitely was the epic showdown I’ve been waiting for since the show came out and I started reading the books almost ten years ago. Arya solidified herself as a complete animal. That being said, I was disappointed in how the episode’s story fit into six years of build up behind it (literally the first scene of the show and book). There is no way that can be the end of the White Walkers. I firmly believe (and hope) that they will be back with more plot this season. There’s no way the show can have the main bad guy defeated before the secondary one. Also, WHAT WAS BRAN DOING THAT ENTIRE EPISODE? He looked like he was watching reruns on Netflix while everything was being destroyed around him. They can’t just hint that Bran can influence the past with Hodo

Wheel of Time vs Game of Thrones

Now that the Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) last season is out and it doesn’t look like the next book is going to be published until the Sun rises in the West, I want to put out there why I love Wheel of Time more than Game of Thrones. Don’t get me wrong, Game of Thrones is an incredible series and I cannot wait for the rest of the books to come out. The show is probably the best I’ve ever watched. I think GRRM has an unique way of writing very different characters and I love how he can make people who shouldn't be heroes into just that. I just happen to like The Wheel of Time more for the following reasons. Some of my downsides for Game of Thrones may be other people’s strong points but here’s what I think: “Game of Houses vs Game of Thrones” To me the point of reading fantasy is to find a world that you can see yourself in, and want to be in. People read Lord of the Rings because it would be awesome to be an elf or a wizard. People read Harry Potter because they i

Top Ten Scenes I want to see from The Dragon Reborn

Helllooo I hope everyone found water and shade since the last blog post on The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan. This week will be about the top ten scenes I would like to see in the upcoming show from book three of The Wheel of Time, The Dragon Reborn! This book may very well be my favorite. It is a tight race between the first book and this one for me. This is where Mat and Perrin start to bloom and really become my favorite characters of all time. It sets up how these three main characters get their own storylines and how this isn’t just a tale about one man to save us all. Rand is almost entirely not in the book (even though it is titled after him). I love Rand but I’m always ready for some Perrin and Mat scenes in these early books. Egwene, Nynaeve and Elayne’s story really picks up too and sets them up on their own dynamic paths. Not gunna lie I used to get alarmed reading the few scenes from Rand’s point of view because of how mad and crazy he seems all ready. After reading The Drag

The Great Hunt Top Ten Scenes for the Amazon show

Blood and Ashes! It’s been a week since my last post on the ten scenes I would like to see from the Eye of the World (the first book in the Wheel of Time) and now it’s time for book 2 The Great Hunt. I have heard that the first season of the show might combine the first two books so this may pertain to the first season as well. For whatever reason I have reread the second Wheel of Time book the least out of the first six books. Although I did read it in one 24 hour period once, which my eyes have yet to recover from, I have not read it as much as the third and fourth book. I’m not exactly sure why. I think it annoys me when Rand purposely tries to distance himself from Mat and Perrin. Although his reasons make sense, I don’t like the way he goes about it. The second book always struck me as more of an adventure book than the later ones. Although a lot is set up in this book for the future, it feels like it could stand as its own adventure while later books seem to be setting up for th

What I want to see in the Wheel of Time TV Show

Hello and welcome to the Wheel of Time blog! There are no beginnings or endings to the Blog of Time. But this is a beginning. This blog will be dedicated to not just the Wheel of Time but all fantasy stories over the next coming months but for now with the Wheel of Time Amazon show coming up and directors/writers picked out I want to focus on my favorite story of all Time (every pun intended). I’ve been reading Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time pretty much nonstop on loop since 2001. I am at all periods either reading or listening to one of the books. Even when I am reading another book, I will take a break to read a Wheel of Time story. I’ve had to rebuy The Eye of the World at least twice from overuse and I bring a copy with me on every vacation I go on (I read the first book on the beach during my honeymoon just to say I did). With the Kindle app I have the books on my phone at all times. Whenever I have my first child I will definitely slip the name Perrin or Egwene to my wife as a na
